What Is Psychiatric Medication Management?

Assessment

Prescription medications can help with many mental health conditions. Some medications for psychological disorders are only needed for a short period of time. In other cases, individuals may need medication to manage their symptoms for the rest of their life.

Our psychiatrists will take the time to listen to your medical history. Then, they will determine whether or not medications can benefit you.

Expertise

Medication management is best performed by a physician whose full-time focus is mental health. Our team believes the best treatment for mental health challenges involves addressing both biological and psychological circumstances. As a result of our care and expertise, we never overmedicate.

Goal Setting

Our psychiatrists provide monthly support. You only take the right medication for the length of time needed to treat your condition. The goal of medication therapy management is to provide you with the tools and support you need to take control of your well-being. With the right tools, you can live your best life.

GETTING STARTED

Initial medication management consultations at Healthy Minds NYC are 60 minutes long. During your first session, your psychiatrist conducts a thorough psychiatric evaluation. The goal is to fully understand your mental health needs and goals.

Your psychiatrist will provide you with the prescription you need based on your symptoms and medical history. If you already take prescription medication, your psychiatrist will ask about the type and dose. You’ll discuss how well it works and what side effects (if any) the medicine causes. You may start a new medication based on your symptoms and new health goals.

CREATING A PLAN

Follow-up medication management appointments occur monthly and last 30 minutes. If appropriate, you may meet with your psychiatrist through our telepsychiatry service for virtual follow-up visits. Healthy Minds NYC uses HIPAA-compliant software to protect your confidentiality during your video sessions.
